Fall Giving Fundraiser
How Fundraising Works
FOSB runs two major fundraising campaigns per school year—Fall Giving and our Spring Fundraiser. We ask our community to make a cash donation during each campaign to reach our annual goal. Our 2026-2027 goal is $300,000. These contributions go towards the entire school directly funding staff salaries, student programs, scholarships and essential school operations that district funding doesn't cover.
SBK8 Fundraising Traditions
What makes Salmon Bay special is the traditions we hold onto, like Friday Sing, Marimba band, and camps for every grade. Our fundraising has traditions too.
For as long as FOSB has been our PTO, fundraising has been conducted by parent volunteers. We've never asked children to raise funds, which means no candy bar sales competitions or gift wrap schemes. All funding comes from our volunteer parents and community.
We also have a tradition of meeting our budget goals each year. As district funding shortfalls have grown, we're committed to keeping this tradition alive. Alongside our two major campaigns (Fall Direct Giving and Spring Fundraiser), we run year-round fundraisers built around community building. These include buy-in parties, sporting events, and restaurant and brewery nights. These events are inclusive and available to everyone, creating opportunities to build community while supporting our fundraising goals.
About School Fees (Fall & Spring)
School fees are separate from fundraising. These mandatory fees vary by grade level and are calculated by teachers and the school to cover class activities, supplies, and programs like camp tuition. Fees are collected in the fall and spring. If cost is a barrier, FOSB offers scholarships funded through our fundraising efforts to support families in our community.
How Much Am I Expected to Give?
FOSB has a long tradition of not requesting or requiring any specific dollar amount. We trust families to give what they can. But to help guide your generosity, here's how different donation amounts make a real impact:
Here's the Math
If every student donated $500, we'd reach our annual goal. That breaks down to $250 per fundraiser (fall and spring). Or, looking at it from a parent perspective: $125 per parent. With family members chipping in, this goal is really achievable!

Buy-In Parties
Year-round intimate gatherings
Year-round, ticketed gatherings hosted by community members. These intimate events range from pickleball tournaments and murder mystery dinners to holiday craft nights, cooking classes, and cold plunge adventures at Golden Gardens. Each party brings Salmon Bay families together while raising additional funding for our school.
Supplemental Funding year-round earnings
Year-round events offering discounted or at-cost participation in community activities. These outings generate supplemental funding through optional donations and marginal revenue. Examples include Fred Meyer community rewards, Salmon Bay restaurant and brewery nights, group sports outings, the Spirit Store, and Pizza and the Play Street.

Retains essential personnel including the school nurse, reading specialists, drama teachers, counselor, and extracurricular coordinators.
Scholarships & Equity

Provides access to camps, enrichment programs, field trips, and supplies; supports the Racial Equity Fund for community-driven initiatives.
Programs & Classrooms
10–15%~$30,000–$45,000
Supplies materials for PE, theater, enrichment activities, and special events like graduations and festivals.

Funds volunteer-led community activities ranging from advocacy to sustainability efforts.
Emerging Needs

Addresses unexpected requirements like safety kits and facility repairs.

Covers nonprofit expenses including insurance and administrative costs.
